The Ashtabula County Technical & Career Campus (A-Tech) is celebrating Construction Appreciation Week. Founded by the organization I Build America - Ohio, Construction Appreciation Week “recognizes the more than 11-million hardworking men and women in the industry who contribute to the development of our infrastructure, facilities, products, and services.”

During the week of September 16th-20th, A-Tech will feature pictures and videos of students gaining skills in the construction trades on its Facebook page. The programs include: Carpentry, Construction & Building Maintenance, Electricity, and Masonry & Hardscape Construction.

“We help students aspire to their full potential, achieve a competitive advantage and advance in the real world of college and career,” said Dr. Jerome R. Brockway, A-Tech Superintendent.

A-Tech students studying construction trades earn certifications that can give them an edge in the job market after graduation. Additionally, students can earn college credit while enrolled at A-Tech. That credit can be applied toward a two- or four-year degree at colleges and universities throughout Ohio.

A-Tech Electricity instructor Henry Notter points out local opportunities for students. “We have a lot of plants in Ashtabula County who need electricians,” he said.

According to I Build America, “The construction industry is one of the nation’s largest industries, employing millions of people and contributing significantly to America’s bottom line.”

Opportunities are increasing in Ashtabula County with pending projects including the Pig Iron plant, and planned hotel in Ashtabula.

Founded in 2018, Construction Appreciation Week brings together the entire industry,

regardless of company size or specialty, and shows appreciation for the work that they

do every day. It touches people at all levels, from students thinking about joining the

industry to current professionals to company leadership.
