Skill & Work Ethic Aren’t Taboo

Mike Rowe Foundation Scholarship Offered

Calling all skilled workers!

Machinists, carpenters, electricians, welders, and all skilled workers who make civilized life possible:

The Mike Rowe Works Foundation is offering thousands of dollars to students through its Work Ethic Scholarship Program for people willing to learn a trade that’s in demand. You can apply if you’re willing to sign the S.W.E.A.T. Pledge: “Skill & Work Ethic Aren’t Taboo.”

The Foundation is looking for the next generation of “aspiring workers who will work smart and hard.” According to www.mikeroweworks.org, the program “doesn’t focus on test scores. It’s about the people who share our values and understand the importance of work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, and a positive attitude.”

The scholarship is open to high school seniors and graduates who have completed a Career Technical program, like those offered at the Ashtabula County Technical & Career Campus (A-Tech). A-Tech has 21 Career-Technical high school programs available on its campus. Adult students who enroll in the some of the Adult Workforce Development courses at A-Tech are also eligible to apply for the scholarship.

“In the community, I think, skills, trades, in many cases, have diminished in people’s minds, until it becomes time to have their car repaired or a house built or a basement repaired, and then it becomes critical for them,” said A-Tech principal Paul Brockett.

“Local employers know that we consistently produce college and career-ready graduates — it’s a win-win for everyone. Student by student, we’re closing the skills gap here in Ashtabula County, and we take pride in that,” said A-Tech superintendent Dr. Jerome Brockway,

The 2020 Work Ethic Scholarship Program deadline is March 31st.Students can apply online at www.mikeroweworks.org Since 2008, the foundation has awarded more than $5-million dollars in scholarships.
