Sixteen
students from the Ashtabula County Technical & Career Campus (A-Tech)
showed they are among the best in the state at the 67th Annual Ohio SkillsUSA
State Championships April 16th & 17th in Columbus.
Students
demonstrated their career and technical skills and leadership abilities in a
variety of contests at The Greater Columbus Convention Center.
In all, 68
A-Tech students participated in what was the largest SkillsUSA Ohio
Championships in the history of the event with more than 6,000 people in
attendance.
The Gold
medal winners will compete at the SkillsUSA National Conference June 24th-28th
in Louisville, Kentucky.

“We’re really proud of our students’ effort. SkillsUSA enables them to demonstrate their skills in a competitive environment,” said SkillsUSA advisor and Computer Systems & Networking instructor Scott Basen.
“Competing here is quite an achievement. It shows that our students have both the knowledge and skills to take the next step, whether that is college, starting a career, or both,” said SkillsUSA advisor and Software Application Design instructor Harleigh Hodge.
Also
attending the conference and serving as voting delegates were: Justin Alderton,
Scotty Brown, Faith Busch, Seth Dreger and Hannah Wegmiller.
Students
from career technical schools throughout Ohio competed in 100 contests at the
Greater Columbus Convention Center. Participants are challenged to complete a
project in their area of training within a specified time period while being
scored by a panel of judges.
SkillsUSA
is a national organization for career technical students training for careers
in trade, industrial, technical and health related occupations. There are
34,412 SkillsUSA members in Ohio.
